There is no reason to hang up our skates!
With the recent closures in Sherwood due to Covid, I wanted to update you on all we are doing to help our community manage through the shutdown and work to re-open our businesses.
First, I want to share a press release (see helpful links) from the City of Sherwood on our continuing efforts to support our community during this pandemic. That support comes in four main categories; grants for businesses, protections for residential and commercial renters, and utility assistance programs.
The fourth area of support is our ongoing efforts to lobby the OHA and Governor’s office to reassess the blanket approach to Covid restrictions. The governor’s blunt tools fail to trust businesses to protect their patrons and customers if they can show they have adequate covid protections in place. The governor's office needs to implement procedures for businesses to apply for safe re-opening based on their unique circumstances and Covid policies.
We are ten months into this. We have learned a lot about the science of Covid transmission. More importantly, we have numerous data points and studies from around the country and the world about actual outcomes regarding covid transmission in specific settings. We have the tools and the data to be smarter when it comes to protecting our jobs and economy during this pandemic. The time for blunt blanket closures is over.
We have to do more; we have to do better. Our ice rink, gyms, restaurants, recreation facilities, and our community deserve nothing less.
Stay tuned: I am working on some other ways to make your voice heard in Salem when it comes to our gyms, entertainment centers, and restaurants.
