Join us on October 29th at 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Sherwood Center for the Performing Arts for the Pie and Planning-Vison Summit.

Our Planning Commission, Staff, and the Citizen Advisory Committee have been working hard throughout the summer. They have been reaching out to the residents of Sherwood with some questions about the future of Sherwood that can have complicated answers. This outreach can be summed up by these three simple questions:

  • What makes Sherwood a great place to live?

  • What is your vision for Sherwood over the next 20 years?

  • What goals and values should guide our growth?

This input will help define a vision and set of goals that will inform policy decisions in the Comprehensive Plan and shape how Sherwood grows in the future! (Click Here to answer the online poll)

What is a Comprehensive Plan, and why is it important to you?

Ultimately the comprehensive plan becomes a series of ordinances, zoning, and building codes that determine the type and nature of growth that occurs in our city. State law requires that we have clear and precise requirements for anyone wanting to start a business or develop property within Sherwood. If someone proposes a development that is compliant with our zoning and building code, then we are required by law to approve that application. In other words, we can't pick winners and losers we can only determine if their application is compliant with our zoning and building codes. Getting the comprehensive plan correct is a critical step in attracting the type and pace of growth that we, collectively as a community, desire.

Our current comprehensive plan is over 20 years old. The quality of that plan is a big reason why Sherwood is such a great community today. There has been a lot of change over the last 20 years. Updating and getting the plan right for the next 20 years is critical to preserving what is outstanding about our community.
